Cece BlaseI started selling real estate in the mid-80s and initially specialized in residential income properties in the Haight Ashbury and Western Addition. It was a good fit for me at the time. As a renter in Cole Valley, I could relate to the product and got excited about the benefits of living in a property where I could live in one unit and rent out the others for income.

In the early 90s the market took a downturn and I repositioned myself by moving to a larger company (Coldwell Banker) and expanding my client base to include buyers and sellers of single family homes and condos. First time buyers comprised a good portion of the market then and I wound up handling a number of condo sales in San Francisco’s well-known neighborhoods on the North Side of town that are noted for their charming architecture and tremendous views.

I also maintained a foothold in my old stomping grounds and continued to specialize in small investment properties. By now, I could relate to this product in a different way, having become the proud owner of a three unit property in NOPA. I also took advantage of the relative ease with which an owner-occupant could convert a small building in to condos at the time. This building turned into a profitable investment that I ultimately spun into other properties in and outside of San Francisco.

In the late 90s my career took another turn and I began selling real estate for one of the country’s first internet real estate companies. We were a ‘clicks and bricks’ operation that combined a sophisticated home search website (at least it was sophisticated for the time) with a physical office in South Beach where we could meet with clients and work with them to find the right home in a traditional manner. During this time the neighborhood was exploding with new high rises and lofts. Yet another new market niche to explore and specialize in.

Since 2006 I’ve been working at Paragon Real Estate Group, an independent firm known for its high quality agents and superb online and offline marketing programs. We number around 80 agents. The best thing about working here is the wonderful support I get from my management and our marketing/business development department. It’s also a fun environment– which fits in with my personal philosophy of only doing things that are fun and/or personally rewarding.

On a professional level, my adage is “I don’t sell real estate. I help people get what they want.” This quote comes from a veteran agent who has enjoyed great success. Her words have anchored me to be mindful about being of service and place my clients’ needs front and center during all of my dealings with them. This means listening to them and allowing them to remain in control as much as they want to be through the buying or selling process.
